Adhere to the C.C.N.V. and protect the right to practice water skiing!

Dear sporting friends,

A regulation of the city of Mt-Tremblant (2003-645) could very soon restrict the right to practice water sports on Lac Mercier. We learn that the process is very advanced and awaiting publication in Gazette 1 of the Canadian Government. Also discussion is in talking phase for restrictions on Lac Tremblant.

If resolution 2003-645 is approved by the Nautical Security Office of Transport Canada, the Lac Tremblant would be, as of this moment, one of the last lake without restrictions on motor powered boats control near Mt-Tremblant.

The Lac Mercier would then become an example for regulations on Lac Tremblant. Without proactive or preventive actions of the amateurs of water sports, we believe that the tendency will be difficult to reverse. We also wish to make the point that, although the water sports are very visible, they are less harmful for the environment for example, its better than several other activities using 2 strokes engines in shallow waters.

The Association of the Bordering Skiers of Tremblant (ASRT) was launched on March 18, 2006. It is a regrouping of amateurs of water sports which represent the skiers, their families and their children in order to protect the right to practice freely and in a sedentary way the sport of water skiing. The ASRT is a long-term plan in order to allow a durable framing of the water sports in the area of Mt-Tremblant and to maintain a dialogue with residents of Lac Mercier and Lac Tremblant. It actively promotes safety, good boating operation and courtesy, on water and near the bordering residence.

The platform of the ASRT is in harmony with the "Local Authorities Guide to the Boating Restriction" which must be applied by the Nautical Security Office of Transport Canada and be followed by the municipalities when comes time to manage navigable water on their territory. Our association makes promotion of a "Voluntary Nautical Courtesy Code ", instead of restrictions on the control of boats. Too constraining restrictions become expensive and difficult to apply for the municipalities. They seldom make consensus for the residents and reduce in a significant way the value of the bordering properties around lakes.

On the ground, the ASRT makes promotion of a "Bordering speed limit " to 60 meters of the lake borders. This zone represents the double of the Canadian standard which is 30 meters. The latter was very effective and economic, elsewhere in Canada, to regulate problems involved in navigation close to borders. With 60 meters, we are convinced that this limit will be doubly effective.

ASRT is oppose to all restrictions aiming to water sports specifically, without any restriction for other engine powered boats, as the resolution proposes in 2003-645. Indeed, with this resolution, nothing will exempt other power boats to circulate freely at all time. If nothing is done, it is not very probable that the heritage of Tremblant as regards to water sports is transmitted to the future generations.

Hoping to be able to count you among the many members with the Voluntary Nautical Courtesy Code (C.C.N.V.), we invite you to send now your opposition to the resolution 2003-645. You can do it in a few minutes using our site by printing the letter of opposition.
